CLEAN-AIR DRC a project by FAIDA asbl

This award will support the first Air Quality monitoring network in Eastern DRC generating continuous openly accessible PM2.5 data for communities that have never had it. Beginning in Eastern DRC, where volcanic emissions, traffics, waste burning, deforestation, fossil fuel and artisanal mining all affect the air, the project will deploy the first Reference Grade monitor in the DRC alongside low cost fixed monitors progressively expanding to Bukavu, Kindu, Kolwezi, Lubumbashi, Kindu, and other provinces across the region. All data will be shared openly, in real time, and linked with existing monitoring in Kinshasa to build the DRC’s first unified national air quality dataset. By working with communities, universities, schools, hospitals, and government, CLEAN AIR DRC a project by FAIDA Asbl aims to turn this evidence into national action, including the creation of the DRC’s first PM2.5 Air Quality Standard, while elevating youth and vulnerable communities voices for cleaner air,

CLEAN-AIR DRC begins from a simple belief: communities cannot protect themselves from what they cannot see. our team hopes to make air pollution visible across DRC, deploying PM2.5 monitors in Eastern DRC and beyond, publishing the data openly, and equipping young people and local communities to read it, understand it, question it, and act on it. Beyond the numbers, we want lasting changes: a National Air Quality Standard, stronger local capacity, and generation of Congolese youth who see themselves not as victims of pollution, but as the ones measuring it and driving the concrete and palpable solutions.
