Our project, Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja, aims to protect the health of families and communities by reducing exposure to harmful air pollutants. Building on the appreciable impacts from our clean cooking intervention, we seek to expand the scope to address outdoor air pollution. We hope to achieve this with the installation of 25 outdoor sensors which will provide the required data that will influence polices and actions towards improving the air quality in Abuja. Through the project, we hope to better understand air pollution levels, raise awareness about its health effects, and generate evidence that can support stronger action by communities and government. We also aim to build local capacity for air quality monitoring and use the findings to inform policies and future interventions. Ultimately, the project seeks to contribute to cleaner air, healthier homes, strengthen the nexus of health and environment and create a pathway for a healthier future for residents of Abuja.
“With the support of the EPIC Air Fund grant we hope to strengthen the nexus between health and environment and demonstrate that clean air action can deliver meaningful and measurable impacts in the health and wellbeing of residents of FCT, Abuja. We aim to generate reliable air quality data, make the data available publicly, influence policies both at the FCT level and nationally, and strengthen awareness and local capacity to address air pollution. By combining community-based interventions with evidence and collaboration, we hope to build a strong foundation for sustained action and generate lessons that can inform the expansion of clean air initiatives across Abuja and other communities in Nigeria.”
