AIRCHAMP aims to help Malaysia take a stronger and more proactive approach to air pollution, protecting both public health and the environment. The project will generate reliable, real-world evidence to better understand air pollution, identify communities at greater risk, and support timely and informed action. Working closely with government agencies and key stakeholders, AIRCHAMP will translate scientific evidence into practical strategies that can strengthen Malaysia’s Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) and national air-quality governance. Importantly, the project seeks to move beyond simply monitoring pollution towards preventing its impacts and building long-term solutions. By connecting science, policy, health, and environmental sustainability, AIRCHAMP aims to support cleaner air, healthier and more resilient communities, and a sustainable Malaysia for current and future generations.
During the 18-month AIRCHAMP project, our team hopes to generate high-quality, actionable evidence on ambient PM2.5 exposure through high-density hybrid sensor networks. By integrating monitoring, data analysis, exposure assessment, and policy research, we aim to establish a robust air-quality baseline and translate scientific evidence into practical, health-centered policy action for Malaysia. Our ultimate ambition is to shift from a passive and reactive approach to air pollution towards dynamic and proactive action, supported by government stakeholders and evidence-based decision-making. We hope AIRCHAMP will provide a scalable blueprint to strengthen national air-quality governance, protect public health, advance environmental sustainability, and contribute to cleaner air, healthier communities, and a more resilient Malaysia.
