Smability

Currently, millions of residents in the Guatemala Metropolitan Area lack access to reliable air quality data. Our project addresses this gap by deploying Smability’s comprehensive, real-time air quality monitoring network across the city’s most critical urban hubs. Instead of keeping this information in technical reports, we are making it fully open and accessible to the public through AIreGPT, an easy-to-use conversational AI chat that delivers immediate pollution updates directly to citizens. Beyond raising public awareness, we are leveraging this data to build a live spatial model of the city’s air. In partnership with local universities and local authorities, our team will use this open information as a ‘living toolkit’ to co-create the region’s first data-driven municipal ordinances. Our goal is to bridge the gap between technology and governance, turning invisible pollution into actionable and lasting public policy.

For too long, the air quality in the Guatemala Metropolitan Area has been an invisible challenge. With this project, we are not just installing a monitoring network; we are building a foundation for environmental accountability. By combining open, real-time data with our conversational AI chat, AIreGPT, we hope to democratize access to pollution information for millions of citizens. Our ultimate goal is to transform this data into lasting action by partnering with local institutions to co-create the country’s first evidence-based regulatory framework, ensuring that clean air becomes a measurable and protected right for everyone.
